Editing Your Preferences

Students/Faculty > Profile > Editing Your Preferences

Engage allows users to configure preferences that control how the system behaves. For example, users can specify the format of the forum subscription emails that are sent by the system.

This document demonstrates how to edit your preferences by illustrating how to adjust the most frequently used settings.

Navigating to Preferences

  1. Click the user dropdown and select Preferences.

Preferences selection is highlighted in the user dropdown
  2. The Preferences page loads. This page organizes the different configurable options by their function.

Preferences page lists links to Edit Profile, Change Password, and more

Changing your Password

  1. If you wish to change your Engage password, you can click Change Password.

This should only be performed if the user logs into Engage by manually typing a username and password. Engage users who log in to Engage via a Single Sign-On (SSO) process should not use this feature.

Note that your new password must be different from your old password.

Changing your Language

  1. Engage allows you to change your preferred language, which will cause standard system components like the Administration block to be displayed in another language.

Note that changing this setting will not automatically translate course content into another language.

If you wish to change your preferred language, click the Preferred Language link on the Preferences page.

  2. Email Digest Type controls the manner in which you receive email notifications about forum posts.

    • No digest: Receive an individual email for every post in each subscribed forum.

    • Complete: Receive one daily email containing all posts made in each subscribed forum that day.

    • Subjects: Receive one daily email containing only the subjects of posts made in each subscribed forum that day. The email will contain direct links to forum posts.

Forum auto-subscribe allows you to choose whether you are automatically subscribed to a forum when you post to it.

    • Yes: Engage will automatically subscribe you to a forum the first time you make a post in it.

    • No: You must manually click the Subscribe link in the forum if you wish to receive email notifications from it.

Forum tracking allows you to keep track of new forum posts by adding an "Unread" counter to each forum. It is recommended that you choose "Yes: highlight new posts for me."

When sending forum post notifications controls whether the "Unread" counter is adjusted as a result of the system sending you an email about a new forum post.

    • Mark the post as read: After the system sends you an email containing the full content of a forum post, it assumes you have read the post. The system automatically updates the Unread counter in the forum by excluding the post from the count.

    • Do not mark the post as read: After the system sends you an email containing the full content of a forum post, it does not assume that you have read the post. The Unread counter for the forum will only decrease once you have visited the forum in Engage.
